About the teacher

Hello! My name is Kristina Miller and I am the new fourth grade teacher at Double File Trail Elementary. I began the 2012-2013 school year teaching third grade at Teravista Elementary. The numbers at our campus were lower than anticipated, so I was surplused. During the last few months, I have worked on four different campuses working as a campus based substitute and as a long term substitute for fifth grade. I am so excited to be teaching again! This is my fourteenth year in Round Rock School District. Originally I started as a substitute teacher. Within two years I was an assistant in a special needs class. Throughout the years I have worked in several capacities at fifteen different elementary schools.

I attended Texas State University for over six and half years. During that time, I worked full-time in the school district, had a second job at a ceramic shop in Round Rock and a third job tutoring reading and math at a Korean school. I have a daughter who is now 24 years old. She grew up in Round Rock and attended all RRISD schools. She is presently in college to become a teacher just like me! My daughter went to Stony Point High School where she participated in band and was drum major her senior year. For three years I served as the vice-president of the band booster organization! She graduated from there in 2007.

Needless to say, I have been busy! I never thought I would see the light at the end of the tunnel for my graduation. Luckily, the light saw me! I graduated from Texas State in May of 2011 and received my certification as an ESL early childhood through sixth grade teacher.

A little known fact about me is that I love motorcycles!! I have a black Yamaha V-star 650. My boyfriend and I love to go on trips around hill country and try out new food places on the bike. For me, it is my guilty pleasure!

I have a thirteen year old shih tzu named Barney and an eleven year old cat named Smudge. They are the best animals ever! They never complain about my late nights working.

My philosophy of teaching is to focus on every aspect of my students and then helping those children to make learning connections, social and behavioral connections and ultimately empowering them to make quality decisions and choices with their new found abilities and gained knowledge. Students thrive on consistency, structure, energy, creativity and patience. As their teacher, I will get to serve as counselor, nurse, teacher, advisor, disciplinarian and be an advocate for each and every one of them. Students have an amazing capacity to learn. By the end of the school year I want my students to show academic growth as well as feeling safe, relaxed and comfortable to ask questions, to challenge appropriately and to have learned how to be a part of a community. School is a gathering place where adults and children come together to build a strong community and learning environment that is safe, motivating and demands mutual respect for all those involved.

I am so excited to get the opportunity to finish out the year with your children!!!!! I look forward to meeting you all at “Meet the Teacher” night on January 24th from 5:30-7:30.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or information you might have.
